Larry Peters, DC, MS, MPH, joined the New Jersey Bariatric Center’s in February 2011, bringing more than 20 years of experience as a clinician, educator and administrator. Larry is responsible for strategic and operational leadership decisions, establishing goals and implementing key programmatic initiatives. His day-to-day responsibilities include management and oversight of all policy and financial matters to ensure that NJBC accomplishes its mission to deliver the highest quality care to its patients. Larry earned a master’s of public health in policy and administration from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. A graduate of the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Larry also holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology and a doctorate in chiropractic medicine. His post-graduate work included an administrative fellowship at the New York University Medical Center in the office of the executive vice president
With 22 years experience managing medical practices, Louise Johnson is the practice manager at the New Jersey Bariatric Center. Louise oversees the New Jersey Bariatric Center staff, coordinates the center’s free bariatric seminars and is our liaison with the bariatric ambassadors. She is a graduate of Fordham University with a B.A. in Social Sciences, and is bi-lingual [English/Spanish] as well as proficient in American Sign Language.
With 25 years of experience as a registered nurse, Maria Posada helps patients through the pre- and post-bariatric surgery process. She oversees all the medical and lab results, and works with patients and their primary care physicians to address any pre-surgery medical issues.
Before becoming a member of the New Jersey Bariatric Center team, Maria was a bilingual medical specialist/consultant for a major pharmaceutical company as well as worked at Overlook Hospital for ten years and other local hospitals in the area of cardiac, surgical, pediatric and newborn care.
Medical coordinator Luz Figueroa has worked at New Jersey Bariatric Center since 2006. She helps patients coordinate pre- and post-operative tests including sleep studies, blood work and stress tests. She is recognized by New Jersey Bariatric Center patients for her compassionate care.
Medical Assistant Ilianny Soto
Illiany is the most recent addition to our team of medical assistants, having joined us in 2010. She has been a medical assistant for three years and received her medical assistant certificate from Everest Institute in Miami, Fla. Ilianny assists the doctors with patient evaluations and band adjustments. When not assisting the doctors, she helps monitor and track the results of lab and ancillary tests. Ilianny is fluent in three languages: English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Medical Assistant Melissa Torres
Melissa joined New Jersey Bariatric Center in 2008 and is a graduate of the Institute of Banking and Commerce with an associate’s degree in secretarial science. She is a certified clinical medical assistant and patient care technician. Melissa monitors our patients’ vital signs, assists the doctors when performing band adjustments and is responsible for many other clinical duties. She has worked with the practice for three years and speaks English and Spanish.
Medical Assistant Carmen Zepeda
Carmen joined the staff of NJBC in 2011. After working many years in restaurant management, Carmen followed her dream to work in the medical field, earning her medical assistant certificate at the CDM Institute in Marlton in 2010. She is currently working toward earning a nursing degree at Raritan Valley Community College.

Franklyn Duval
Franklyn’s responsibilities include the collection, processing, maintenance, scanning, retrieval and distribution of medical records. His efforts are integral to the coordination of care between providers and other health care facilities.
