Gastric Balloon
For people struggling with extra weight in New Jersey, the gastric balloon is a non-surgical weight loss procedure designed for patients with a body mass index (BMI) between 30-40, and is a weight loss option for people who do not qualify for or do not want surgery.
The gastric balloon helps you lose weight by taking up space in your stomach so you eat less and feel full. During the 6 months that the gastric balloon system is in place, you work with your New Jersey Bariatric Center® doctors and registered dietitians to establish healthier eating and lifestyle habits that will further your weight loss. After the gastric balloons are removed, you will continue with 6 more months of personalized counseling to maintain your weight loss.

How the Gastric Balloon Works

How the Gastric Balloon Works
The non-surgical gastric balloon is inserted orally and placed into your stomach during a short, non-surgical procedure. The whole process takes about 20 minutes and most patients return to normal activities shortly afterwards.
During the next 6 months, the gastric balloon reduces the space in your stomach, helping you feel full after consuming less food. You will also work with our nutritional support team to learn to eat smaller portions and make healthy, nutritionally balanced food choices. At the end of the 6-month treatment period, the balloon is deflated and removed by a brief outpatient endoscopic procedure.
Currently, the New Jersey Bariatric Center® offers the Spatz® adjustable gastric balloon and the Orbera® gastric balloon system.
