At New Jersey Bariatric Center®, we don’t do “diets.” Our doctors and dietitians like to say that going “on” a diet means eventually you will go “off” a diet. And once that happens – when you return to old eating habits and patterns – you will likely gain back any weight you’ve lost and maybe even more. At New Jersey Bariatric Center®, instead of going on a diet, you’ll work with our registered dietitians to learn about changing your eating habits and behavior patterns to make positive choices that you can live with for the rest of your life.
Nutritional Counseling for Nonsurgical Weight Loss Patients
Nutrition counseling is the foundation of our non-surgical weight loss program. At your first appointment, you will meet with one of our registered dietitians who will get to know you as an individual, learning about your personal weight goals and reviewing your current dietary habits. Our dietitian will devise a program that is unique to your needs and lifestyle. Our team evaluates your medical history, nutritional status, vitals and metabolic profile and then works with you to develop a whole-foods-based, nutrient-dense meal plan that won’t leave you feeling deprived.
Dietitians and doctors also understand that weight loss is not just about calories in and calories out. Each session, our registered dietitian will work with you to identify behaviors that are stalling your weight loss and give you strategies for change. Topics covered may include:
- Emotional eating
- Eating on the go
- Habitual snacking
- Mindful eating
- Reading labels
- Portion control
If you need additional support redefining your relationship with food, our bariatric psychologists are available to help.
Many of our patients like using meal replacements because they relieve you of some of the work of meal planning while still providing balanced nutrition and hunger control. Our dietitians evaluate the products currently on the market to recommend only the ones that promote safe and sustainable weight loss. Products are sold in the Springfield office for your convenience and include meal replacement protein shakes, protein bars and snacks.
