Acid Reflux Disease

Acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), affects more than 20% of adults. It occurs when the acid in your stomach “backs up” into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in your chest. Other symptoms may include nausea, pain/difficulty swallowing, cough and bad breath.
Acid Reflux Disease
Lifestyle changes, allergies to GERD medications and possible side effects of a lifetime therapies may not be a viable solution for acid reflux sufferers who are seeking lasting results.

Minimally invasive surgery for GERD is a safe and effective option for many patients with proven benefits:
Decreasing or eliminating the need for heartburn medications
Restoring the ability to eat certain foods again
92% of patients remain symptom free 5 years after surgery
Shortening the recovery time and allowing a quicker return to work

How NJBC Can Help

At New Jersey Bariatric Center we provide minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical treatments of GERD including:
LINX Reflux Management System
LINX is a ring made up of a series of small magnets (about the size of a quarter) that is placed around the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES). The magnets have sufficient attraction to strengthen weak LES pressure, preventing reflux, while still allowing food passage with swallowing. LINX requires no permanent changes to the anatomy.
Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication
This procedure is an anti-reflux surgery that involves repairing your hiatal hernia, if present, and then wrapping the top part of the stomach behind the esophagus to encircle the esophagus (like a hot dog in a bun) to reinforce the lower esophageal sphincter.
