GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY
I had been trying to lose weight since childhood. My first diet was prescribed by my pediatrician. Since then, I’d tried everything from Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem and SlimFast to online applications like MyFitnessPal and Loselt. When those didn’t work, I tried both prescription and non-prescription medical weight loss therapies including the likes of dexatrim, phentermine and qsymia.
There were two incidents that made me decide I was going to have weight loss surgery. Both of which occurred simultaneously – the first was the results of my blood sugar and blood pressure test which showed prediabetec and prehypertension readings. The second was when one of my twins innocently described me as “fat”.
Weight loss surgery served as a tool to help me reach my weight loss goals. Since losing weight with the gastric sleeve, my blood pressure and my sugar levels are normal and, I no longer feel like I’m embarrassing my sons with my appearance. Shopping continues to be a new and exciting experience and my self-esteem has increased. I am no longer the fattest person sitting in the conference rooms during meetings at work nor do I feel self-conscious during my day-to-day business and personal events.
The staff at New Jersey Bariatric Center were my guides but ultimately, I was the driver of my success. Being a self-advocate was critical during this process and in life in general. Just having surgery didn’t win the battle. I was committed to a different lifestyle for my overall physical and mental health.
My experience with the New Jersey Bariatric has been great. The staff is caring, thorough, super patient, and responsive and I would definitely recommend them.
