For me, weight loss surgery was all about getting healthy. I had been struggling with my weight for a number of years, but learning from my doctor that I had diabetes was a serious wake-up call. I didn’t want to spend my life on medication, and diet and exercise alone was not working. I had the gastric sleeve procedure in March 2016 and to this date have lost 62 pounds! With the help of the surgery and the support of the staff at New Jersey Bariatric Center, I’ve learned how to portion my food properly, follow a healthy regimen and stick to a food schedule. But what’s more incredible is that about a month after surgery, my diabetes was resolved.   I didn’t need medication any more.  I have more energy. My sleep has improved and so has my self-esteem and quality of life. I love being able to fit into clothes that I haven’t been able to wear for years. And I love shopping for new clothes again too! Thanks to my doctors and staff for helping be healthy again!

*According to national studies, bariatric surgery results in an average weight loss of 55-80 percent of excess body weight. Excess weight is the amount of weight one needs to lose in order to have a “healthy” BMI of 25.
