GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

Being overweight was hindering my ability to move, be active and exercise. I had struggled with weight my whole life and in 2018, I had a hysterectomy and gained an additional 80 pounds. I tried counting points, prepackaged meals and other things that had worked for me in the past but this time nothing worked. I just couldn’t lose the weight.
I work a very demanding job and I was eating whatever was available or within reach. I felt like I lost my “pretty” even though I wasn’t looking in the mirror much and I knew that I was not healthy. I had lost myself and I decided to take my life back.

Gastric sleeve surgery was the heart of the weight loss program for me. It helped me to follow through on this journey. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to cross the finish line by myself and I truly believe that without committing to an entire lifestyle change, I wouldn’t have been successful. My first appointment was via telemedicine and I was still able to establish an amazing connection with the team at New Jersey Bariatric Center. I was able to form a personal connection and get the support that I needed through a screen. It made the moment I saw my team in person for the first time even more special.

Dr. Thomas, my surgeon, was so personable. She is like family. Clarissa, my dietitian, is an excellent teacher. She gave me the information that I needed to be successful on this journey. Everything she shared, even the simple things like mindful eating - chewing slowly and to stop eating when I was full, helped me so much. I believe that my results are because of the staff - my doctor, dietitian, Alley, my physician assistant, Aimee, my navigator, the receptionists and the staff who helped me with my prescriptions.

My life has changed so much since surgery. It’s so much more rewarding and I feel so good. Sex is great again. I can age more gracefully now and I got my sexy back! I can now fit into a single digit size. My husband is proud of me and I am proud of myself.

I have already recommended other people to New Jersey Bariatric Center not just because of my amazing experience but mostly because this process was clear. The work is on you. You’re the driver. You have to be dedicated and goal-oriented to get the results that you want.
