GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY
I had been trying to lose weight since I was 14 and it was like a lot of yo-yo dieting. I would lose weight, gain it back and then some. I could never consistently lose weight and keep it off. Through the years I tried everything from weight watchers to intermittent fasting to keto and more. None of these diets really stuck or worked for me.
I realized that I needed to make a change when I began having trouble getting out of my car. It got to the point where every time I would walk somewhere, I would be sweating and out of breath. I remember sitting in a restaurant and seeing how much food I had just eaten and realizing in that moment how unhealthy I was. I stepped on the scale and decided that I needed to make a more permanent change.
I found New Jersey Bariatric Center through my insurance company and I knew I wanted a female doctor. Dr. Thomas is by far the best doctor I have ever had. Her bedside manner is amazing and she doesn’t treat me like just a number. She remembers everything about me as a person. Everyone at the office at New Jersey Bariatric Center is so kind and genuine. After surgery, I went through a bad depressive episode and the physician assistant, Alley, called and checked in on me. That gesture meant so much to me.
Since surgery, my whole life has done a complete 180. I was prediabetic and had slightly high blood pressure and that’s all gone now. Even my asthma has improved and now that I am in school for physical education I have the energy to keep up with the kids I’m teaching. At home, I’m making healthy decisions about food and my parents are eating healthy with me. Prior to my weight loss, I would restrict myself a lot because of my weight but now I feel like I can do anything. My confidence level has increased so much.
