GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY
My mom’s family all developed type 2 diabetes and all died from complications related to that.
My brother and I eventually developed type 2 diabetes as well. He was 10 years older than me, and at 62, he died from a massive heart attack related to diabetes. That was my turning point.
Before bariatric surgery, I had been overweight my entire life. I tried many diets and diet programs. Everything from Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers to the military diet. I even tried eating only vegetables. Nothing worked for me. I was constantly hungry.
Having gastric sleeve surgery at New Jersey Bariatric Center helped me take away the insatiable hunger that no amount of food would satisfy. I immediately felt so much better. I was finally satisfied after eating my meals. Surgery also helped me get rid of my diabetes which was huge for me.
I did my research before coming to New Jersey Bariatric Center but I am so happy that I chose them. The staff was ALWAYS there to answer questions, especially right after gastric sleeve surgery. The philosophies behind their surgery and journey post-operatively, aligned with my beliefs and I knew that with their support, I would be able to make the lifestyle changes that I needed to succeed.
Since gastric sleeve, my life has changed in many ways. In addition to losing weight, I am now able to walk around and keep up with my active kids. I can finally travel without being worried or embarrassed if I couldn’t fit in an airline seat. I can go to a restaurant without wanting to eat EVERYTHING I see or smell. My self esteem has also increased and I feel like I am finally able to live my life!
*According to national studies, bariatric surgery results in an average weight loss of 55-80 percent of excess body weight. Excess weight is the amount of weight one needs to lose in order to have a “healthy” BMI of 25.
