Choosing a Procedure

The most frequently performed weight loss surgeries are the gastric bypass, gastric sleeve (also called vertical sleeve gastrectomy) and gastric band (LAP-BAND®). However no bariatric procedures or patients are the same, yet patients often share a common goal - to find a procedure that results in successful weight loss and improved health. If you qualify for weight loss surgery, the New Jersey Bariatric Center team will guide you in deciding which procedure will give you the best chance for success based on your goals.

Weight Loss Surgery Health Benefits
Weight loss surgery can help you lose unwanted, excess weight so that you can live a longer, healthier life.
More importantly, the benefits of bariatric surgery go beyond just losing weight. The metabolic changes associated with weight loss surgery can support improvement in cardiovascular health and/or even lead to remission in type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea.
Weight loss also produces benefits that you can’t see physically. We call them non-scale victories. Patients often tell us that they want to lose weight so they can be more active with their children, walk for long distances without shortness of breath or get on an airplane without requesting a seatbelt extender and more.
