GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY

I had always been a stocky guy. My weight was a problem stemming from high school onwards and with that I had always been trying to lose it. Before surgery, I tried counting calories, eliminating food, shakes and other meal replacements.

I knew I needed to make a change when I was a groomsman in one of my friend’s weddings. The wedding was in Hershey Park Pennsylvania and the whole wedding party had gone out the night before to the theme park to go on the roller coasters. I had gotten on one of the rides with all of my friends and the safety bar wouldn’t come down because of my weight. I was kicked off the ride in front of all of my friends. It was a very significant moment for me and I knew something needed to change.

Surgery helped me view food in a totally different light than I had before. Struggling with weight I would always focus on eating vegetables first, now I focus on eating protein andI stick to one serving with meals.

The staff at New Jersey Bariatric Center has been great every step of the way. Dr. Buwen has been very attentive to me even throughout the entire process, both before surgery and after. Clarissa, my dietitian, has helped me so much and the staff that I’ve interacted with has been great.

Not only am I feeling amazing but my self confidence is so much better now. Now that I have lost the weight, I love that I can wear nicer clothes. I never really liked to shop for clothes, but now it’s so much easier. This surgery has been really significant for me.
